first, my bebekins needed new slippers, so I crocheted these yesterday and added the little felt owl (or kitty) applique, today. they're made with 100% wool and are so super soft and Nathan just wuvs them! I made the owl/kitty during his nap. i freehanded them and used a blanket stitch to edge them, then sewed them to the tops. the buttons are sewn 5 times to the felt, then once to the whole things, so he should never ever be able to take them off. haha! these babes are easy to crochet.
CH 4, slst to make a circle
CH 3, 10 DC into circle (11 dc)
CH 3, DC into same st, 2 DC into each st around (22 dc)
next three rows: CH 3, 1 DC into each st
CH 3, DC into next 18 st, leaving 4 unworked. CH 3, turn and work 18 DC back and forth until the sole is as long as the baby's foot (I think I did about 5 rows).
seam up the back, then work about 2 round of single crochet around the edge, decreasing at the corners. that's it!
these are his old slippers. as you can probably tell, they're getting rather fuzzy. I didn't treat the wool at all, so that's probably why. oh well, he'll still wear them around the house. i need to find something to attach to the bottom, so they aren't so slippery. my mom suggested that stuff you put in kitchen cabinets to prevent glasses from slipping around...that rubbery stuff. I don't know what else I could use, so I'm going to find some, the next time we go to the grocery store.
lastly, I made an etsy trade last week. I traded my mini robot-hook case for a spoon handle necklace. the case can be seen in my flickr set for "other crochet" here.
this is me and the necklace.
I think it's pretty neat, though I now seem pretty vain. haha hmm, let's combat that--- a nathan picture!
it took me a few days to make these. they weren't hard, but I kept putting them off for other things and for the teething bebekins.
I used DC throughout, until the edging, in which I used SC. the toe part is made in the round--I started with 8 DC and increased by 8 until 32 or something (whatever fit around my toes--size 9 foot :x). I then went around evenly for 2 rows. after that, it was time to work on the sole. DC around, leaving about 9 unstitched. turn at the end of the row and repeat until the slipper is about as long as your foot. sew up the back seam and voila, a slipper. at this point, it would probably not fit right, so, attach yarn (I did this in the same color as the slipper) at the heel and SC around the edge, decreasing 4 times--twice on each side of the corner edges, by the toe section. do another row in the same color and decrease only once on each corner, then finish SC to the heel, and attach the contrasting color. before I attached the new yarn, I slipped a button on. I decreased every 10 stitches or so (also at the corners, again!) and when I got to where I wanted the button to be, I crocheted the button in, making sure to position it right. on the opposite side, where the button loop would be, I made a loop stitch long enough to reach the button. I finished single crocheting and decreasing approx. every 10, until I got to the end and fastened off. because the loop was a little thin, I attached yarn at the bottom of the loop and SC around it. done! I hope that wasn't too confusing.
love the button!
I used wool-ease I found for like a buck at hobby lobby. they're pretty soft and comfy.
